About the event
The time of Halloween is often described as the time when the veil between worlds is the thinnest. We are going to spend the weekend taking advantage of that possibility, using sound to connect more deeply with those on the other side, on whose shoulders we stand. The weekend runs across Halloween and into the Day of the Dead.
What we come from is usually a mixed bag. Our ancestry may evoke both gratitude and grief, reverence and rage, a heart that is singing and a body that is bracing. This weekend has room for all of it.
Why sound rather than a talking circle? Unlike talking, music allows us to express without having to take a position. The gratitude and the difficulty can exist together and be felt and acknowledged beyond words.
